Even though the afternoons are continuing to bring us plenty of warm sunshine, the mornings and evenings are carrying hints of autumn with their welcome and lower temperatures. The coming of a new season in Western North Carolina means many things for area mountain communities; the trees will soon be decorated in fall colors, visitors will be coming into town to enjoy the mild weather, and Hendersonville's renowned apple season will be in full swing.

Over Labor Day weekend, the North Carolina Apple Festival will welcome autumn to the Asheville area by celebrating the crop that has been a part of Henderson County's culture since the 1700s. The county grows 65% of all of the state's apples, which means that scenic orchards, friendly growers, and good, old-fashioned southern recipes are a way of life in the region. The festival will honor Hendersonville's agricultural history with orchard tours, a 5k road race, an antique aircraft flyover followed by a parade, sidewalk sales, window displays, recipe contests, live entertainment, and, of course, plenty of locally-grown apples and apple products.

From the apple butter to the many family-friendly events that take place in the Hendersonville community throughout the year, the area is full of small town charm and a range of traditional and cosmopolitan offerings.
