December Update: Springhouse Park

Season’s Greetings from Fox Run Preserve, Hendersonville’s newest, private gated community.

Last month in the community update, we discussed our inspiration for the neighborhood’s direction. We have done our level best to respect what the land wants to be… Hendersonville’s rich sleep-away camp history permeates the experiences of most residents in the area. We pay homage to this at Fox Run. It is the ultimate camp experience for well-heeled active adults. It is what “right” looks like.

The “summer camp” aura has become tangible as we complete several of the amenities. We have started, in earnest, around Crane Pond with Springhouse Park as our first focus. Several months back, this area had the feel of a wonderful, sheltered place that time just managed to overlook. (It did not hurt that the area had been grown over with vines and underbrush.) It was a bit like an architectural dig to uncover the bones of an earlier time. The springhouse roof had long since fallen in, the stone barbeque hosted a maple tree growing from within, but the space just made you want to linger and enjoy a pond-side respite from your day. Once we understood how the site was used in the past, it informed our plans for the all you can enjoy today.

Today, the springhouse stands with a new roof from milled timber gathered from the land, once again providing shelter. It begs for two chairs and a small table… which are under construction as you read. The structure has been updated just enough, but kept true to the rich North Carolina legacy of the Crane family homeplace that is now Fox Run Preserve.

Stone stairs that descend from the trail now sport a laurel wood handrail. The fire ring is complete and has hosted several roaring fires to date. (We have to make sure these things all work, don’t we?) Wood sits neatly stacked beside the patio in one of a kind “Josh” original structure. Long fireside debates have centered on the genesis of Josh’s creative vision. Is it Bob Timberlake® inspired design? It has the strong lines and refined rustic character… Or does it reflect a fondness for the whimsy of Dr. Seuss? (We are leaning toward the latter, but you be the judge...) Regardless of artistic inspiration, the wood shelter stands stocked and ready.

We have moved across the pond and have started on the “wine” shack. The sawmill is still turning out the timber we will need. Next month we will share some more details…

In the meantime, come for a visit and enjoy both long range mountain views and proximity to Hendersonville’s cultural amenities. With only 44 homesites, this real estate will not be available for long. Once you enter the gated preserve of Fox Run you too will see what “right” looks like.

Custom lot, custom home, house/lot package, North Carolina HealthyBuilt® Homes… we can build that too.
