The Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design Launches a New Exhibit

Fox Run Preserve is endowed with a range of outdoor amenities suited for those who favor privacy, adventure, and the natural beauty of WNC mountain property.  Nearby venues like The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design add a unique cultural and intellectual dimension to living in Henderson County. Residents of Fox Run Preserve have access to some of the most beautiful views that Western North Carolina real estate has to offer. The sights from the community are panoramic and awe-inspiring, providing simultaneous feelings of seclusion and vastness with home sites tucked among forested acres yet surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. But the natural beauty of the Appalachians is not the only sight worth seeing. Biltmore Farms centers on five core tenants of community, one of which includes arts and culture, and the convenient location of Fox Run Preserve allow you to see exhibits, attend cultural events, and enjoy personal enrichment while never having to journey far from the comforts of home.

Just a short eight mile drive from Fox Run Preserve, past farmer’s markets and pastureland, lays The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design (CCCD)—a regional center for the University of North Carolina. A non-profit organization, CCCD serves both artisans and the community, advocating the importance of craft in education, personal enrichment, and scholarly research On Friday, January 23, the Center will open its doors for a new exhibit featuring high-quality work from 22 nationally recognized contemporary artists throughout the southeast, including local crafters from Western North Carolina. The exhibit titled “Soul’s Journey: Inside the Creative Process” is based on a documentary series, told in large part through first-person narrative, that sheds light on how the artists imagine, plan, and execute their work. With artists hailing from a variety of locations, social upbringings, and cultural heritages, the exhibit allows for visitors to appreciate diversity in craft. Katie Lee, Assistant Director for The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design says, “It is rare that we get so much insight into the creative process. It’s great that this is something we can do for the community.” With work in ceramic, fiber, metal, glass, and wood, the exhibit features a wide array of craft disciplines, highlighting the development of each piece. Ranging in size from a bold small ceramic piece to an elegant wood sculpture that could demand the attention of any room, each piece makes a statement, whether subtle or apparent.

CCCD is working hard to make the Hendersonville community stronger by providing quality events that are both educational and enjoyable. In conjunction with the exhibit, CCCD will also present a screening of a portion of the documentary as well as host a reception where gallery visitors can meet artists and learn, first hand, about their inspiration.
