There are few times better to vist the greater Asheville area than in spring, and Fox Run Preserve, Biltmore Farms' premier gated community in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is already showing signs of the beauty of the upcoming season. Area residents are enjoying the yellows and purples of the daffodils and crocuses that have budded in gardens, along highways, and throughout the forested acres of Fox Run.

Located only a few miles north of Hendersonville along the Blue Ridge Parkway, The North Carolina Arboretum is the perfect place to celebrate the official start of spring. With a range of activities and events for visitors of all ages, it is a great spot to enjoy the outdoors and warm weather. Be sure to mark you calendars with the upcoming annual Western North Carolina Orchid Show; it may be just the thing to help you recover from the winter doldrums.

The two-day event takes place March 28th and 29th at the Arboretum's Education Center and showcases nationally-recognized growers and hybridizers. Known for their elegance and delicate beauty, orchids are one of the largest plant families. The WNC Orchid Society will present uncommon and unusual varieties of the popular plant, highlighting the exotic and charming appearance of the blossoms. The event will also feature a plant sale where visitors will have the opportunity to purchase rarely seen orchid varieties. Perfect for an impressive and thoughtful gift, the flowers have a long and varied history of symbolism, with meanings that include love, beauty, luxury, and strength. Bring the best of the season indoors to brighten up your home.

But if you don't make it to the Arboretum, you can always celebrate the changing seasons with a walk outside. Now is a better time than ever to plan a tour of Fox Run Preserve. With rhododendrons expected to make their annual entrance in April and mountain laurel in May, visitors will be able to experience the enchanting appeal of the Blue Ridge Mountains in their full glory.
