Discover a New Take on Summer Camp

It seems that there is always one day in April when we wake up, sip our morning coffee, and look out the window only to realize that the world around us has suddenly changed from the bare branches of winter to the many shades of spring green. The chilly mornings give way to bright and warm afternoons, children begin to daydream about the end of another school year, and parents begin to think about summer camp.

With thousands of undeveloped, mountainous acres and inviting, lush, green valleys, it is no wonder that Western North Carolina has one of the highest concentrations of camps in the United States. Horseback riding, water sports, access to hiking trails, and a vibrant arts community are commonplace here--making warm weather adventures the norm.

Henderson County, the home of the Fox Run Preserve gated community, is surrounded by endless summer camp options. Camp Pinnacle, for example, offers camps for boys and girls and features exciting activities including archery, white water rafting, and regular trips to nearby DuPont State Forest. Founded in 1928, they are part of the rich camp history of the area. If your children are eager for something a little farther away from home, boys may want to try Camp Timberlake, where their summer will be marked by games of paintball, soccer, fencing, and even guitar classes. Located in Black Mountain, it's close enough to ease your fears of homesickness, whether parent of son. And girls may want to try Camp Ton-A-Wandah, which has been owned and operated by the same family since 1933. They welcome more than 600 girls every camp season, instilling the values of character, community, sportsmanship, work, and fun.

If spending the day by the water, playing tag, or roasting marshmallows during an overnight camping trip sounds appealing to those a little older than the summer camp age limit, Fox Run Preserve is there to fulfill your own summer day dreams. In keeping with the tradition of the region, the Hendersonville real estate in Fox Run is designed to offer the seclusion of the woods, the peace of mind of a private community, the amenities for outdoor recreation, and the proximity to modern conveniences with Asheville and Hendersonville just short drives away. Make s'mores with friends at the fire pit; fish from the dock at Crane Pond; stretch your legs with a game of frisbee at Skyview Park; or simply relax with a book on your front porch. Don't just remember your childhood days at camp; instead, create new memories with one of the many available homesites at Fox Run.
