Best Bet For Bookworms
Fox Run Preserve, a gated community encircled by the Blue Ridge Mountains in Hendersonville, North Carolina, invites and embraces creativity and imagination. Whether adult or child, the forested acres, whimsical shelters surrounding Crane Pond, and range of beautiful real estate offerings are bound to make some of your greatest imagined stories come to life. Fox Run promises to be a place for relaxation and comfort--where you can create your own story and perhaps even enjoy some others. If spending the summer on your front porch with your favorite novel sounds appealing, then so will the newest addition to Western North Carolina's festival season.
Hosted by Blue Ridge Community College in their Technical and Education Development Center, the Blue Ridge Book & Author Showcase promises an enriching experience for all bookworms. The festival will feature an opening reception on May 8th to honor local author Louise Howe Bailey whose most recent book is entitled Henderson County: A Legacy of Love. The following day will be full of events including presentations from 15 published authors, display tables, book signings, and book sales from 35 authors. All events on May 9th will be free and open to the public.
Local heritage will be a major part of the festival, with several presentations showcasing the folklore, storytelling, and ballad traditions of Appalachia. The enchantment and creativity inspired by the region has long been an attraction to residents and visitors, and Henderson County is excited to celebrate that ongoing legacy. North Carolina's poet laureate Kathrynn Stripling Byer will join in on the festivities as will writers from every genre including southern humor, historic novels, children's literature, and more. Whether writer or reader or just plain curious, the festival is sure to impress.
Western North Carolina has attracted authors for generations. Carl Sandburg, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Wolfe, and the many local writers that reside in the Asheville and Hendersonville areas have penned stories, poems, and even lore based on the enchantment of the mountains. Fox Run Preserve holds that same enchantment by practicing sustainable land use and by working with the beauty of the region rather than against it. Available homesites in the private community enjoy both the seclusion and peace of the woods while maintaining an ideal location close to every modern convenience.
