For fifteen years, the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival in Tryon, North Carolina, has drawn thousands of food enthusiasts. The Blue Ridge Mountains have boasted BBQ fame for generations, with endless varieties of everything from pulled pork with a vinegar base to chicken--grilled with a sweet tomato-based marinade. While there is a long history of feuding about the best way to prepare the traditional dish, people across the country can generally agree that the Blue Ridge is one of the capitals of southern-style cooking.

On June 12th and 13th, the fesitval will return to Tryon for its 16th annual celebration. While there will be hundreds of vendors, craft booths, and activities to choose from, the festival will center on the coveted North Carolina State Barbeque Championship. The competition this year promises to be fierce as cook teams try their hands at chicken, pork ribs, pork, and beef brisket. Of course, attendees of the event won't go away empty handed. Throughout Friday and Saturday, festival-goers can enjoy sampling the region's finest BBQ. There will also be a wide selection of exotic beer and wine on hand to complement your meal.

The Foothills Craft Fair will also be a highlight, with artisans lined up along the banks of the tranquil Pacolet River. Visitors can enjoy learning about the process of making crafts and can even watch demonstrations. Children will enjoy various activities, too, with the event culminating in an exciting fireworks display.
